Welcome back to Monster High Parents where we reveal to parents what is new & hot at Monster High. But, this is a little different as I have called in a well known friend in the Monster High world to write up a post on something now effecting us all as parents to the youngest fans of Monster High. So what is it that could effect so many demographics of a simple toy line? It is the hoarding epidemic of our favorite guys & ghouls for huge profits! So here is my first guest post from Clawdeena9

First, let me thank Monster High Parents to speak on a subject quickly becoming an epidemic for the youngest (yet biggest) fans and parents of the collectors who like myself love Monster High.
Scalping and Hoarding dolls is a serious problem in doll collecting but not only collecting, Children! Monster High dolls are a line of fashion dolls who have grown very popular of their 2 year release. Now they are sold to as much as $200 dollars per doll on web sites like EBay and Amazon. They are sold by people with no life who go out to different stores buying DOZENS of the same doll, making it hard for parents to find. Our society today is impatient , especially children making it hard to resist buying a doll when it is first released , and as a parent you want your child happy so you spare the $200 dollars for that doll. When if you stopped hoarding you can find the doll at your local toy store for lower then $30! Stop hoarding/scalping by not paying the price and they will realize they are waisting their time,life, and money and will be forced to stop! Stop the scalp!

Monster High's ghouls Operetta the daughter of The Phantom of the Opera and Nefera De Nile older sister to Cleo De Nile and daughter's of The Mummy are on their way to the toy shelves across the globe and website AngelicDreamz.com will have them this week! But pricing them at $29.99 each you may want to bypass on them and find these ghouls elsewhere but whatever floats your boat!

What is Monster High?

Monster High is the biggest new product explosion for kids. It’s the hot line from Mattel that offers all sorts of goodies from toys to videos. What is Monster High though? It’s a high school of monsters of course. You’ve got students of the Famous Movie Monsters like Draculaura, Clawdeen Wolf, Frankie Stein, Deuce Gorgon and more. Where fitting in is so out and freak is the new chic !

Mattel’s Official Monster High website has free online games, activities, videos, wallpapers and TONS more to explore. You can even print off some of the activities. As you play the games you will get codes to unlock other activities on the site. The Monster High videos can be found on their official website and on Youtube. The videos are entertaining mini cartoon episodes that you should definitely take a peek at. And of course, don't forget their Facebook page.

On top of all the stuff you can do on their website, you can also buy a lot of Monster High items. The current bestsellers are the dolls, kids sick of Barbie or Bratz seem to really love these supernatural toys. You can also get Monster High tattoos, locker decorations and more via iCoffin and doll codes.

But that’s not all! You can also buy plush dolls, diaries (I love the Electronic Fearbook), key chains, bikes, scooters and… yea, you get the point. Monster High has a lot to offer. You can buy these toys online or you can get them from stores like Target. If I were you I’d go to an actual store, online prices seem to be about double than store prices.

I admit it, I love the idea of Monster High… and I’m not even a kid. I am so incredibly jealous that this stuff wasn’t out when I was little! I totally would have died to have the Draculaura doll.

First Look Purrsephone and Meowlody

Purrsephone and Meowlody are the twin werecat sisters who are Toralei's best friends. Both have dark gray fur; the hair on Puursephone's head is predominantly black, and the hair on Meowlody's head is predominantly white. Though they do not dress exactly alike, their clothes are stylistically similar. Neither twin has yet spoken any lines on her own in the webisodes; most of their speech has been occasional meowing and purring, and chiming in with Toralei. So what would they look like in doll form? Well here you go Guys & ghouls meet Purrsephone and Meowlody of Monster High.

Cleo De Nile Sleeping Chambers

In the newest Monster High webisode "Game of Denile" it takes the ghouls to Cleo De Nile's sleeping chamber and has them all kicking back at a slumber party and

in the opening sequence you see something many have pondered over, Cleo De Nile's royal chambers. I have it on very good authority that this will be one of the newest additions to the already popular Dead Tired line of beds. The current Dead Tired Bedroom Line features the original ghouls, Frankie, Draculaura, Clawdeen, and Lagoona in their popular bedroom surroundings.

Well if you haven't heard by now Toys R Us Canada has pallets of new dolls in stores awaiting Friday's big sale! I for one am beyond excited to see them and by the eye of Ra snag some for my little ghouls! But that is not all our Northern friends have. Our Canadian Guys & Ghouls also have Cleo's vanity and the long rumored Sweet 1600 Coupe hitting shelves already. I got a few pics for you all to drool over as we await Santa Claws arrival in hopes that he swooped into a Toys R Us in Canada to bring the newest ghouls to us in time for the Howlidays!

Skull Shores Released!

Mattel's upcoming line entitled "Skull Shores" by Monster High has been released and in this all new line in comparison to their previous beach line "Gloom Beach". "Skull Shores" will be divided up into two assortments this first set includes Lagoona Blue, Ghoulia Yelps, Abbey Bominable and Gil Webber. Whereas the second assortment available this December will include Draculaura.

Monster High Returns to Television !

On Monday October 31st on Nick, Mattel's Monster High line will be back with an hour long special. The storyline goes when other monster schools' Smogsnorts Academy (vampires), and Luna High (werewolves) are merged with Monster High, our ghouls find themselves up against a Normie administrator determined to drive a stake into the harmony of the school, and magnify old grievances in order to isolate and separate the monster groups. This agenda of intolerance can only be cured by Frankie, Clawdeen, Draculaura and their ghoulfriends as they strive to prove that the culture clash of Fur and Fang will not inevitably lead to a war within the walls of the school. So guys & ghouls expect to be creeped out in a good way this Halloween season!

Gil-Close up and stunning

Gil is Lagoona's boyfriend. He was first introduced in the webisode "Blue Lagoona" and has made reoccurring appearances. Gil is one of the top members on the swim team. When on land, Gil has to wear a tank full of water over his head. "Hatch Me If You Can" and throughout Gloom Beach does show he can be on land for a short period of time without it. Gil likes Lagoona back, however, his parents do not want him to hang out with her because she is saltwater, while he is freshwater. In Back-to-Ghoul, his parents did send him to another school because of his association with Lagoona. His first doll will be part of the 2012 line, Skull Shores. So without further delay here is Gillington "Gil" Webber...

Amazing New Monster High News

Welcome once again to Monster High Parents where Mummies & Daddies can keep up with all the ghoulish happenings at the most creeperific school, Monster High.

German website Sparshop.biz spilled the guts to the 2012 Monster High lines from Mattel. As such these lines include the new Sweet 1600 theme featuring brother Clawd Wolf and sister Clawdeen Wolf along with Frankie Stein and Draculaura. Also included in this line is Draculaura's Sweet 1600 Booday gift her very first car! The car's sleek design of course features Draculaura's favorite colors of choice pink and black, and is a 2 seater by the looks of it. One other noticeable character is a Sweet 1600 cupid ghoul who' possibly behind the love mischief that has yet to unfold.

Another interesting line has to the Skull Shores assortment or island dolls as Sparshop puts it. This includes Abbey Bominable, Draculaura, Ghoulia Yelps, Lagoona Blue and Gillington "Gil" Webber.

Adding more to the mix is yet another fashion set that by the looks if it belongs to Spectra Vondergeist top left, Frankie Stein top right, Toralei bottom left and Cleo De Nile bottom right. Another fashon accessory has to be Cleo De Nile's vanity this mummifying stylish set features her colors of yellow, blue, and black and has a chair and of course the vanity itself that has a mirror, dresser, with a nifty outragous design to boot. Expect these to pop up sometime in 2012 possiblity at the start of the New Year if not February being the closet

So over the last year I have heard more & more people of all ages asking "What is Monster High?" and "Why is Monster High so popular?" Well here is hopefully a very good answer to the parents who just don't get it yet.

A leading Toy Expert stated recently "There’s a particularly important message for kids as our too-often-polarized culture defines people as groups—just as the high school culture can for kids still forming their identities.

Monster High is all about being an individual, celebrating what’s unique and different about each human being, seeing beyond the surface and somehow making it all work. It’s a very supportive message for kids delivered with appropriate humor and, of course, drop dead style.

I’ve always believed that we become what we play, that the identities we try on in the world of the imagination can become elements of ourselves as adults. Sure, the Monster High toys are beautiful and fun, but most importantly they encourage kids to explore their worlds and express themselves, and that’s the best play of all." he stated. Truly an opinion many parents share across the world as well as the envy many of us share that our dolls growing up were not as "cool" as the Guys & Ghouls of Monster high.

So what is Monster High ?

Monster High Dolls were released before Mid-Summer 2010. This year they are even bigger and have so many more dolls added to the range. Besides the original dolls we have now seen the Gloom Beach and Dead Tired series. Along with that has been the addition of further dolls such as Ghoulia Yelps, Jackson Jekyll, Holt Hyde, Clawd Wolf and Abbey Bominiable, Spectra Vondergeist. Another doll is due for release
this year known as called Toralei Stripe. These dolls are awesome and it’s great to see them modeled on how real high schools operate as well as including boy dolls in the series. Below is an article I wrote when Monster High Dolls first came out. I have added the latest dolls into the list of characters.

There’s some really thrilling news if you’re a doll lover. Monster High Dolls are the newest line from Mattel and are part of their new entertainment franchise.. Monster High Dolls are really cool teenage children that all come from famous monsters. They all attend Monster High where they experience regular teenage moments such as trying to fit in and make friends. The Monster High Dolls are refreshingly individual which will appeal to many doll fans.

Monster High Dolls are just a bit weird but with lots of style and humor. They all look so fashionable and stylish. Each doll comes with a pet, an accessory, a brush, a stand and a diary with a secret code that can unlock things on the website. The code gives you inside information on new characters, games and activities. The characters all have their own style and personality that is determined by their freaky flaw, for instance Draculaura can’t see her own reflection in a mirror.

So let’s introduce the characters:

Frankie Stein

Frankie Stein is the daughter of Frankenstein and his bride. She’s 15 years old and comes with her pet Watzit which is made up of all different animal parts.

Draculaura

Draculaura is the daughter of Count Dracula. She’s centuries old but wow! she looks amazing. She comes with her pet bat Count Fabulous.

Clawdeen Wolf

Clawdeen Wolf is the daughter of the Werewolf. She’s 15 years old and comes with her little kitten, Crescent.

Lagoona Blue

The daughter of a Seamonster. She’s 15 years old and comes with her pet pirahna, Neptuna.

Cleo De Nile

The daughter of The Mummy. She’s the egyptian princess who’s over 5 thousand years old and like Draculaura she’s very well preserved. She comes with her pet cobra, Hissette.

Deuce Gorgon

The son of Medusa. He’s 16 years old and comes with his pet rat, Perseus.

Ghoulia Yelps

Ghoulia Yelps is the daughter of Zombies from the Zombie movie Night of The Living Dead. She is the smartest girl at Monster High. She has a baby blue colored owl named Sir Hoots-a-Lot.

Holt Hyde

Holt Hyde is the son of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. He is also the school DJ. Holt Hyde has blue skin and fiery red hair. He comes dressed in a red jacket with striped purple pants to compliment his fiery red hair. Holt has a pet chameleon named Crossfade.

Jackson Jekyll

Jackson Jekyll is the son of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He is the alter ego of Holt Hyde. He’s the normal side and is the only human at Monster High.

Clawd Wolf

Clawd Wolf in the 17 year old son of the Werewolf and Clawdeen Wolf’s brother. He is one of the older Monster High Dolls and drives a car. Clawd Wolf is the big monster on the Monster High campus being the captain of the football team. He has a pet gargoyle bulldog named Rockseena.

Spectra Vondergeist

Spectra Vondergeist is the daughter of ghosts. She can float through the walls and possesses an “uncanny” ability to overhear school gossip.Spectra’s pet is a purple ghost ferret is named Rhuen.

Cleo De Nile and Deuce Gorgon are Monster High’s popular cool couple. Cleo is the mean girl of the school (every school has one) and Deuce is her super cool boyfriend. Frankie Stein, Draculaura and Clawdeen Wolf are BFF’s. Lagoona Blue fits in well with everyone

So far Mattel hasn’t released a full range of dolls clothes but that is all to come. In the meantime Bratz clothes will fit the Monster High gang even though they are a bit bigger than Bratz. The dolls are full articulated with the arms pulling apart at the elbow and wrist for easier redressing. For this reason and the fact that the earrings come off makes these dolls unsuitable for smaller kids. There’s a plush version available for the younger kids though. Yes, Mattel has thought of everything.

Mattel has big plans for the Monster High Franchise. The Monster High website has animated webisodes on it. Mattel has also released a further collection of dolls called “Dawn Of The Dance” where the dolls will be wearing 80′s style clothes to the school dance. There are also other versions out now too such as the “Dead Tired”series. A full live action feature film is coming out with Universal pictures which will propel Monster High even further.

Of course a Universal Picture can’t be released without a full range of clothes, handbags, shoes, fashion accessories, hair accessories, jewelry, socks, slippers, costumes, you name it Monster High will have it. There’s a series of Monster High books written by Lisi Harrison who is the New York Times #1 best selling young adult author which will be released over the coming years. An animated 30 minute special is coming featuring music from “American Idol” star Allison Iraheta.

Vampires and Werewolves have taken over the world due to the Twilight series which is aimed towards the older teen, Monster High will fill in the gaps and entertain the younger teens that are just a bit to young for Twilight. Monster High will definitely appeal to them. Monster High Dolls are going to be a monstrous hit.

Let’s see, there’s nothing on the market like them. They’re unique and different and will appeal to not only kids but adults who love collecting dolls. Horror fans are going to love these dolls. It's time to head Back to School!

Mattel's Monster High line debuted last summer and since has grown into an infamous popularity ranging from appeal, toys, and electronics, among other various accessories. This year at the annual San Diego Comic Con Mattel's Monster High returned just as it premiered last year and this time it more items are in the works to be released.

Now as back to school approaches I had to share my little ghouls top trends she will be sporting for fourth grade. Let's just say freaky fabulous is a great way to describe her. Fans refer to her as Scary Cool HaileyD, the luckiest ghoul in school for obvious reasons. Here is a small sampling of her newest attire/supplies. Keep in mind she has socks, clippies, several bags, the MP 4, digi cam, and custom jewelry...

Last year, Monster High had its first line of fashion packs with its school spirit scream uniforms, this year it has a club line which includes, Ghoulia Yelp's Comic Book Club, Draculaura's Newspaper Club, Clawdeen's Entrepreneur's Club, and Abbey's Snowboarding Club, all to be available this fall.

Aside from these releases Mattel is currently running a contest which allows fans from all over the world to vote while Comic Con is in effect, on which of the three characters will be made the new student of Monster High, they are as follows; Scarah Screams the daughter of the Banshee, the Headless Headmistress Bloodgood, or the Daughter of the Arachne which is a half human half spider girl based on its Greco-Roman mythology. Other characters who have already been introduced and made into doll forms includes Spectra Vondergeist, Abbey Bominable, Clawd Wolf, Howleen Wolf, Nefera De Nile, and a leading feline Toralei Stripe and Cleo De Nile’s sister Nefera De Nile will become available just in time for the holiday season.

So of course as fans we all want to know who will be the newest student bodies? Well a source has whispered of yet another new character whom is a male vampire character by the name of Bram Devein. Aside from these characters there are also some other lines that are a continuation of its original line, Skull Shores looks to be the 5-pack Gloom Beach line that includes Ghoulia Yelps and all of the other female ghouls but does not include Jackson Jekyll, this set will be sold only at Target as an exclusive set. Luna High which sounds to be some type of play set will be later released.

Moving along Monster High doesn’t just stop at its toy line but the electronics department is doing quite well too. This October THQ will be releasing a video game titled Monster High: Ghoul Spirit trailer for the game can be seen here, while the game itself sets you up with you being the new ghoul at school and you can interact with the various ghouls already in attendance. This game will only be available for the Nintendo gaming consoles Wii, DS, and DSI. Other than that other electronics includes iPod, iPads, and laptop cases, along with cameras, video cameras, USB, plus much more.

Represenatives from Mattel say the winning doll will be the newest student but the other two may never make the cut. So who do you like? Maybe Scarah Screams, daughter of the banshee? Or will Headless Headmistress Bloodgood be the first faculty member in the line? And of course last but not least Arachne, daughter of the Spider Queen.

And of course there was jewelry, accessories, fashions and so much more but the big shocker for many this year was the announcement of the "Monster High: Ghoul Spirit" video game due out October 2011 for Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii .

All in all for fans, parents, industry pros this was a freaky fabulous Comic Con for the legendary brand known as Monster High.

I just got off the phone with Margeaux Vega, Mattel spokeswoman who is currently in San Diego for all things Mattel which of course includes Monster High.

Now the makers of the wildly popular Monster High Dolls, say its controversial line of toy dolls, featuring the teen offspring of monsters, aims to show kids it's OK to be different.

“Monster High is all about celebrating your imperfections and accepting the imperfections of others," says Margaux Vega, spokeswoman for Mattel. She continued on "Monster high is about what everyone goes through or has gone through in High School." The Monster High brand uses the monster metaphor to show girls that it is ok to be different and that our unique differences should be celebrated in a splendor.

She acknowledges that the dolls, which sport fishnet stockings, heavy makeup and ultrashort skirts, appeal mostly to 5- to 7-year-olds. But they also have online personas and webisodes aimed at older kids that tell each doll's backstory. The creators of Monster High are so taken back by such overwhelming success that they are inspired to keep creating more freaky fabulous characters with unique personalities as well as storylines.

It's hot, you're sweaty and longing for some relief from the heat. Aren't you? And while thinking about winter, you're probably also dreaming of all those snowy nights of Christmas celebrations? Well well, you can't actually change the season now, but the closest you can get to doing so is reduce the time left for Christmas. I’ve been thinking a lot about Christmas lately. Is that weird?

I think maybe it is, but it’s not my fault. It’s been over 110 degrees everyday for the last two weeks here in the California desert with virtually no wind at all. I have done my best to avoid the summer slump but tonight Bella said to me " Mommy It's almost Christmas Cheer up!" So I began to think she is right about Christmas, I am always out there fighting crowds while singing carols and smiling as I stand in line at 9pm on Thanksgiving to get into Toys R Us Black Friday. So yes I am now counting down days until Christmas though my neighbors are confused since I hung my wreath today while they are all trying to kick off Summer.

So I bid you all a great Summer but from me personally Happy Holidays!!!

You all have heard me rave over the wonders of Monster High and now I am writing yet another post about the amazing inspiration & wonders of Mattel's Monster High. I have for almost a year sang the praises of the inspirational meaning of the cute and perfectly timed line. Now for the exciting news...

Mattel’s popular Monster High franchise is encouraging girls to celebrate their imperfections, and to embrace imperfections in others. They’re partnering with the Kind Campaign, a movement, documentary and school program dedicated to spreading the message of kindness. We’ve been hearing quite a bit in the news the last few years about bullying and kids being ridiculed because they may be different. The Kind Campaign is based on a simple and empowering solution to bullying, the intent of the campaign is not to point fingers, but instead, to put ourselves in each other’s shoes, and make the personal choice to be kind.

Here’s the scoop:

The Monster High™ brand reaches teen and tween girls through content, toy, consumer product, publishing and entertainment and leverages storytelling to highlight the awkward, yet relatable moments of being a teen in high school — from the challenges of fitting in to the powerful bonds of friendship — all delivered through a monster lens.

“The Monster High brand uses the monster metaphor to show girls that it is OK to be different and that our unique differences should be celebrated,” said Lori Pantel, VP Marketing, Global Mattel Girls Brands. “We see our partnership with Kind Campaign as a natural fit because their message of kindness and acceptance goes hand-in-hand with the Monster High brand’s message to embrace our own and each other’s imperfections.”

Kind Campaign founders Lauren Parsekian (age 24) and Molly Thompson (age 23) have visited more than 300 schools and organizations with their Kind assembly program and their inspiring documentary “Finding Kind.” The film is currently touring the festival circuit, where it has received numerous awards including the Student Choice Award at Sprockets Toronto International Film Festival and Best Documentary at the Palm Beach Women’s International Film Festival.

“We are excited to partner with Monster High and have the opportunity to leverage the brand’s scale to reach and relate to our target audience of teen and tween girls. In teaming up with Monster High, we will be a step closer to our goal of reaching every girl across the country with the message of creating change through being kind,” said Lauren Parsekian, co-founder of Kind Campaign.

My thoughts about Monster High Walkie Talkies -

The Monster High Walkie Talkies were a huge hit in my house. The kids love playing with them. They used them in hide-n-seek, to go on pretend adventures, and to simply talk to each other even if they were in the same room. I love the fact that they used their imagination with them. One of their numerous pretend adventures they went on with them is looking for dinosaurs. They actually found one, which in reality was our dog, but I loved the fact that they used their imagination and went on a long dinosaur finding adventure. I also like the fact that they are light and the antenna is flexible so it's much safer for kids to play with. Another great thing about them is that they can be either and indoor or an outdoor toy. They can play with them inside on a rainy day or take their adventures outside. Monster High Walkie Talkies are definitely a toy that is going to be played with for a long time in my house.

What exactly is open ended play?

A question I am often asked as I refrence the saying so frequently. Before we get to that question, consider this: The National Toy Hall of Fame inducts toys each year based on specific criteria including the toy’s icon status, the longevity of its popularity, how the toy encourages learning or creativity, and innovation. Past winners have included Legos, the Barbie doll, crayons, Tonka trucks, the jigsaw puzzle, and other usual suspects. Based on their criteria, in 2008 the Hall of Fame’s judges inducted ...So let's start with a simple one, The Stick. It’s very open-ended, all-natural, the perfect price. It can be a Wild West horse, a medieval knight’s sword, a boat on a stream or a slingshot with a rubber band. ... No snowman is complete without a couple of stick arms, and every campfire needs a stick for toasting marshmallows. This toy is so fantastic that it’s not just for humans anymore. You can find otters, chimps and dogs playing with it.

The box? The stick? What is it with open-ended play that makes it so appealing that kids will put down the several hundred dollar video game system to play with a ball of silly putty? It could be that our children’s brains know what they need to develop optimally, just as their bodies know when they’re hungry. Research has shown there are several advantages to a child’s development if they engage in play that has no defined expectations or outcomes.

Open-ended play develops the imagination. Imagination is the ability to form a mental image of something that is not there. Starting around age two, children can understand the symbolic nature of one thing standing for another, such as a box for a boat and a towel for a sail. The abilities to think symbolically and abstractly are the basic building blocks of creativity and intelligence. Albert Einstein even said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge,” and he’s no slouch in either department!

Creative play also helps children develop their social and emotional abilities. Kids will try on adult roles and test out ways of acting and being. In this way, they can develop their ‘what-if’ abilities, which is one way to strengthen their understanding of consequences. Children solidify their learning by not just taking things in passively, such as with screen time, but by mimicking and recreating what they have seen. They can also express themselves emotionally under the guise of being a character and children who playact are known to develop their ability to empathize. Creative play has also been linked to increased cooperation, problem-solving skills, leadership skills and behavioral control, such as using words to express oneself and waiting one’s turn. Hmm... Maybe we should have time-outs to play house in Congress. It couldn’t hurt.

Spending a lot of time in creative play also helps build cognitive skills. According While... play might look a lot like time spent doing nothing much at all, it actually helps build a critical cognitive skills called executive function. Executive function has a number of elements, such as working memory and cognitive flexibility, but perhaps the most important is self-regulation - the ability for kids to control their emotions and behavior, resist impulses, and exert self-control and discipline. Executive function - and its self-regulation element - is important.

You can provide materials that will spark the creative drive in your child. Toddlers love to mimic so you can provide them with toy household goods or dress-up clothes. Other items that can stimulate creativity are stuffed animals or other figures, and large building blocks. Preschoolers also enjoy creating whole small worlds, such as dollhouses, airports, or towns. They also enjoy dolls, dinosaurs and other representative playthings. Elementary aged children add to the repertoire with puppets, play-dough, adult-style dolls, and more sophisticated building blocks and construction materials. All children love age-appropriate art supplies such as specialty papers, pens, paints and scissors. To encourage creativity, just make sure there are lots of uses, rather than one correct outcome such as with a coloring book or painted figurine. (Structured play is fine at times, too, and can teach skills such as following rules and sequencing.) One caveat regarding encouraging creativity is to stay away from TV show and movie character costumes or props since playacting things seen on the screen is often an act of re-creation rather than creation. What you want is to inspire their own imaginations, like the kids who were given a bunch of rubber gloves in their preschool class. One said, “I’m a doctor.” Another pronounced, “I’m a scientist.” And a third one exclaimed, “I’m a mommy changing her hair color!”

So how can we give our children this elixir of all good things? Unlike most parts of parenting, it’s very simple: 1) provide a safe space, either in the house or outdoors, 2) provide open-ended materials that will help spark creativity, and 3) provide the gift of time. Children who have ample opportunity for creative play will be comfortable with it and find occasion for it everywhere. For example, when my daughter was in kindergarten, I received a note from her teacher one day that said, “Would you please talk to your daughter about pretending to be a dog at lunch and eating her meal with her hands behind her back? It was okay for the first week, but now everyone is doing it and they’re not all as neat as she is.”

Some children need adult stimulation to sustain their play. If you find that's the case, you can become an audience member, a comfort, or an interested party who inspires by your presence. Your open attitude fosters exploration. In time, you may want to invite a playmate over who can join in the experience and help sustain play.

You can also engage in "parallel" play alongside your child (build your own cool castle!). You'll find you "re-create" and refresh your own energy while not stifling your child's. So if you find yourself using the phrase "open ended play" Just keep in mind: open-ended play is not a competition. It's a joy.

What it is:

The second novel in Lisi Harrison's Monster High series, Monster High: the Ghoul Next Door, picks up where the first book leaves off, focusing largely on the character Cleo de Nile. My hopes were high after the first few pages; I found the fast-paced Egyptian references and jokes in the opening paragraphs quite entertaining, and I was happy to find more of the "girl talk" banter and teasing among the monster gang that was featured in the first novel.

Cleo was the queen bee of the RADs, the normies, and everyone in between at Merston High. But now it's "Frankie this" and "Melody that" . . . these new girls sure know how to get her lashes in a tangle. When Cleo lands a golden Teen Vogue photo op for her friends, everything seems to be back on track . . . until they bail to be in some film . . . Frankie and Melody's film! Can't a royal get some loyal?

Frankie Stein

Frankie lost her head over Brett once and vows never to do it again. Not that she has a choice: Bekka is clinging to her guy like plastic wrap. But when Brett comes up with a plan that could help the RADs live free, sparks fly, and Bekka will stop at nothing to put out the flames . . . even if it means destroying the entire monster community.

Melody Carver

The clock is tick-tick-ticking. Melody has a serious deadline to save her boyfriend, Jackson, from being exposed by the vengeance-seeking Bekka. But Cleo is making it royally difficult for the normie while threatening her acceptance into the RADs' exclusive group . . . a group that Melody suspects she has more in common with than she ever thought.

Fitting in is so out.

Why It's Fun: You already know Freaky just got fabulous but now Freak is the new Chic! This book is not only fun but has a wonderful message by showing kids like my own sister that it's okay to be different. I am also very happy how the entire series is encouraging more children like my classmates to grab a book and take a trip into drop dead clawesome style as a monster-ista.

Whose going to love it: I think anyone who read the first book will adore Monster High: The Ghoul Next Door but it is definitely more for the tween to adult age range.

Review of Salonpas Pain Relief patches

SALONPAS Pain Relieving Patch

A few months ago I injured my back by sitting in a small child’s chair for several hours during a meeting. At that time I purchased many lotions and patches to combat the pain. I did try out the Salonpas Pain Relieving Patch but by that time I had started taking Advil Advanced Medicine for Pain and stopped using patches.

The box that contains the sheets has a press down tab to open and close securely. Inside are two green pouches that tear open and contain five sheets in each for a total of 20 patches. Each sheet has a green backing with a white patch on each side that easily peels off. After you have removed one patch the sheet goes back into the green pouch and then inside the container. I like how sanitary the Salonpas Pain Relieving Patch is through the storing process, but please note they are not child resistant.

I have one green pouch inside my emergency kit since the uses include bruises and sprains along with arthritis, simple backache and strains. The patches are specifically for those over age twelve through adults. They should never be used with a heating pad or ointment. This is why I suggest using the patch before other methods since it is easier to then try a heating pad and then ointment. The area should be clean before applying a patch.

You can use a patch up to three times a day for a period of seven days. A patch should be removed after eight hours. I have not slept with the Salonpas Pain Relieving Patch and never felt the need for more than two in any 24-hour period. I had back pain last week as a result of sleeping on the couch with springs poking me at various spots. I used two patches for the area and they stayed in place most of the time. They are easy to move to another area, but I find it hard to put on in areas that are hard to reach and the surface was a bit sticky on my hands.

The Salonpas Pain Relieving Patch has a wintergreen type scent, which is better than other lotions and patches I have used. There is not that instant hot or cold feeling to the skin upon placing the patch. It does take awhile to obtain that heat sensation and the sides of the patch do curl up, depending on where you apply the patch. With other patches and ointments I flinch upon contact, so this is a nice relief. The scent of the patch is not even noticeable through out the day.

For consumers like me with sensitive skin it is recommended to test out a patch for sixty minutes on your arm. This is to check for a rash, redness or itchiness. I did not do that since the pain was immense and had no adverse reactions on my back or side due to wearing the patch. I did not use the patch where my eczema is on my back since this is a rash and considered broken skin.

For those who are pregnant or nursing a baby they should first consult a Doctor before using the Salonpas Pain Relieving Patch. The active ingredients inside each patch are 132 mg of Methyl Salicylate, 26 mg of Camphor, 120 mg Menthol and 21 mg of Tocopherol Acetate.

The patch is not to be used near eyes and for those who are prone to allergies from aspirin or salicylates, consult a Physician first. The Salonpas Pain Relieving Patch is made in Japan, the ingredients and warnings are listed on both the box and the green pouches. Avoid mucous membranes, rashes and wounds when applying the patch to the skin. This is a topical analgesic and there does not seem to be an expiration date anywhere on the box or pouches.

For me the patch has worked very well on backaches. I wish they were a bit larger in size, but I appreciate the portability and ease of applying the patch. Even though there is no real intense heat the patch is working on the aching muscles and allowing me to function without thinking about it.

One morning I woke up in so much pain I placed two patches on my back before taking kids to school and heading out to the laundromat. Upon arriving home I removed both patches and realized soon after that the pain was still there, but had been temporarily relived with the patch.

Now at the first sign of a backache I go for the Salonpas Pain Relieving Patch. It is a simple process of maintaining relief.

Bella's Gluten Free Matzah Ball Soup

6 large eggs

6 Tablespoons chicken fat or margarine

2 tsp salt

1/2 teaspoon xantham gum (optional, but helpful)

2 cups instant mashed potato flakes

4 tablespoons club soda

Preparation

1) Beat eggs and margarine/fat together (by hand is okay.)

2) Add salt and xantham gum to potatoes and mix with fingers to combine.

3) In 3 or 4 batches, add the potato flake mixture to the egg mixture, combining well each time.

4) Add the club soda, mix well and chill for 20-30 minutes.

5) Wet your hands and form the mixture into balls about the size of a walnut (they puff up a lot while cooking.)

6) Cook in simmering soup/broth/hot water for 20 minutes.

NOTES: I used "chicken-flavored" instant mashed potatoes to give them even more of a chicken soup kick!

If you like heavier matzah balls, substitute 4 tablespoons of broth or water for the club soda

Toy Fair Tragedy

Well the excitement of Toy Fair had gripped our home with dreams of stickers and Monster High taking over every conversation. The only song being played was of course the Monster High Theme song. Isabella has told everyone she sees even the bagger at the grocery store that they are freaky fabulous. That was until Thursday morning a call came from the school explaining that tragedy yet again struck. Isabella had a grand moll seizure of epic proportions and the Dr. has now told us no trip to New York, San Diego, or for that matter anywhere. We are grounded from traveling!

Imagine my heartbreak as I told the little girl who missed comic con due to being hospitalized that we were not going to New York! I told her Thursday night and expected a major meltdown but instead she just looked up at me exhausted and The last thing she said before bed broke my heart as she whispered "No Monster High huh mommy?" I told her I was sorry and explained what the Dr. said and why. She yawned and said to me "guess I will never see Monster High" then whimpered into sleep as I held her in my arms. I stayed up all night thinking and trying to brainstorm how to pull off bringing New York to her and after sending tons of tweets via my twitter . When I heard her early wake up I went to see her and she was coddling her Monster High plushies under a blanket and saying she was sorry. Then, I heard from my good friend Adam over at DadaRocks and he gave me a glimmer of hope. I have no directly contacted a PR Rep. over at Mattel. I promise to keep everyone up to date on any progress so stay Tuned for what I hope to be a very happy ending for my little ghoul, Isabella.

Well Bella & I just got back from trying to shop at Sears in the Imperial Valley Mall and it was by far the worst experience I've had as a customer as far as customer service. First off the lady near the door asked me pick up Bella because she "looked dangerous". When I explained she had just had her medication I was asked "Is she one of those retard kids?" I seriously was getting upset but I came for the clothing Hailey wanted more than anything. I picked up Bella and walked into what would eventually be a pit of horror!!! The employees all seemed like they'd rather be doing anything else but their job, in fact, it looked like they were being tortured. Then, while I was looking for the particular new Monster High apparel, one of the employees rushed toward me and slammed into me, knocking me off my balance, hardly even muttering a careless, heartless "excuse me" as she ran into me. There is no reason for this. There was PLENTY of room for her to go AROUND, and she could have stopped to apologize for nearly knocking me to the ground. It seems like all the employees are immature, ungrateful, uncaring snobs.

Open Letter to my readers and Carl's Jr.

Dear Carls Jr,

This open letter is to let you know that my autistic daughter was insulted, mocked and experienced defamation of character by some of your employees this past Wednesday!!

We ordered our lunch like normal without hesitation and made our way to the play yard well my dear Isabella proceeded to get very excited and jump on the chairs. The young lady asked me what her problem was and I explained she is ADHD coupled with high-functioning aspergers/autism. The woman asked if we lived nearby and asked if I would like to join her in church to pray for my daughter. At this point I figured that seems nice of her to offer when my daughter was going into meltdown mode waiting for kids' meal. Then this employee asked me "When was the last time you have been to church with her?" I simply explained someplaces are very hard for Isabella to go to on a regular basis. She then stated in a loud, firm tone "You have to save her though Satan made her retarded, don't you love your child at all?" At that point I lost my cool as did my 7 year old daughter, Hailey who told her "My sissy is very smart and talented lady!" I was so furious I left immediately and emailed corporate headquarters which I still haven't heard back from. (probably won't ever hear back from them) I think the worst part had to be on the way home when Isabella looked at her sister and said "I'm sorry everyone hates me because I am special." How the hell do you explain that some people are uneducated and naive to a disease that currently effects 1 in 91 children? How do I tell her the one who being hateful is the one in the wrong? Well, I am now choosing to make her gluten-free diet at home and will NEVER go back to that horrid place where a child like mine is treated as an outcast.

I am my daughter’s voice until she finds her own, it is my responsibility to speak up for her rights until she can do so for herself.

And one of my most popular requests is for my "Amazing Rockin My Ass off squash banana brownies" recipe for all to enjoy!

Ingredients

1.1/2 medium butternut squash (1 1/2 pounds)—peeled, seeded and cut into 4 pieces

2.5 ounces unsweetened chocolate

3.1 stick plus 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into tablespoons

4.4 large eggs

5.2 cups sugar

6.1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

7.1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

8.1 1/4 cups plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

9.3/4 teaspoon baking powder

10.2 large diced bananas

Directions

1.Preheat the oven to 375°. Pour 1/2 inch of water into an 8-inch square baking pan. Add the squash, cover with foil and roast for 1 hour, or until tender. Turn down the oven temperature to 350°. Drain the squash and puree it in a food processor; you should have 1 1/2 cups.

2.Lightly butter a 9-by-13-inch metal baking pan and line the bottom with parchment paper; butter the paper. Bring 1 inch of water to a gentle simmer in a small saucepan. Set a medium heatproof bowl over the saucepan and add the chocolate and butter. Let melt, stirring frequently. Set aside and let cool slightly.

3.In a large bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar, vanilla and salt at medium speed, until pale and thick, about 2 minutes. Beat in the melted chocolate,bananas and the squash. At low speed, beat in the flour and baking powder. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 25 minutes, or until a cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean. Transfer the pan to a wire rack and let the cake cool completely before cutting into squares.

Storage

The squares can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days

So many have asked me lately for more of my recipes and I will start with my latest and possible greatest of all time, fresh Cactus Salsa!!!!

FIrst let's prepare the Cactus which is a vegetable that can be eaten grilled or boiled. Over cooking may give them a slightly "slimy" texture you may want to avoid. Frequently they are added to eggs, or as a vegetable in soups, chilies or a filling in a tortilla.

The best preparation I have tried is to prepare the nopal leaves (remove spines) then grill over hot coals till tender and slightly browned. Then slice into 3/8" strips and toss with a squeeze of lime and a little bit of olive oil. They are delicious! Now onto the salsa....

Ingredients:

two pounds of cactus prepared and diced

a couple cans of diced tomatoes

three or four pickled jalapeno peppers (or to taste)

three cloves or more (to taste) of garlic

one-half medium onion

a can each of red kidney, black bean, and pinto beans

a can of sweet corn

pinch of basil

a bunch of cilantro

quarter cup of olive oil

couple dashes of salt and some ground black pepper will add flavor

a handful of shelled sunflower seeds, shelled pumpkin seeds, or pine nuts, or any mix of them

For a real crowd pleaser at a picnic or party make this cactus salsa ahead of time and allow it to blend its flavors in the refrigerator for a few hours or more.

Just mix all the ingredients above that you can obtain.

Some hot peppers are always in favor here in the Southwest,

but other folks may need it tamed down on the hot peppers some.

One can use this as a dip for tortilla chips, or a relish and garnish on burritos, meat dishes or a general spicy condiment.

I host regular playgroups for autistic children under the age of 7 teaching them how to interact and letting them test all the new toys on the market I can afford. Every year for the past couple of years, the ladies over at 5MFM hold the Ultimate Blog Party. 7 year olds and Chemistry?

Am I the only one who has a science crazed mini me running around the house? Yeah I didn't think so. She has requested loudly that I review our fav chemistry toys so today is Haileys' lucky day for picking my topic.
It’s very easy to think of presents for ordinary kids who seem to like any toy given to them. But what if you need to give a present to a future scientist? Will you still think of just going to the mall and picking any hot toy you see? Of course not!

Young scientists need educational toys that will certainly delight and educate them at the same time! If you need ideas on the best educational toys for young scientists, read on.

I want to start with a personal favorite in my own home. The Ultimate Spa and Perfume Kit includes everything you need for a complete spa experience and lots of fun things for you to make! Using natural ingredients, you'll create bath oils, oatmeal soap, foaming baths, bath balms and more. essential fragrance oils (coconut, strawberry, & vanilla), oats, citric acid, sea salt, baking soda, bentonite clay, a wooden spatula, a plastic pipette, an eye mask, 7 empty plastic storage jars and bottles for the "products" you create, and an instruction booklet. She has had so much fun that she now does an experiment and then adds her own little things to see what happens. The experiments only take a small amount of the products provided. This is definitely not a do all the experiments once and then you are done because you have used up all the ingredients.

Also I must mention a great new show for budding Scientists, SciGirls on KPBS. SciGirls is a new show for kids ages 8-12 that is designed to spark a girl's curiosity in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). The show is all about hands-on science inquiry. Participants learn the scientific process, work collaboratively to investigate meaningful questions and see how STEM helps people solve problems, achieve goals, and help others. They even have an awesome online club to make new friends for Princess Scientists like mine.

My Picks for Best of Toy Fair

Now one thing that has caught my eye that's not from one of the major toy companies is an adorable yet modern plushie called ...VAMPLETS! The Vamplets decided to reveal themselves to the world with a blood drive. Right in the back booths of Toy Fair. And instead of keeping all that blood for themselves like you'd expect selfish vampires to do, they chose to donate all that blood to the New York Methodist Hospital, letting them use it as they see fit.
Vampire lovers should take a look at the Vamplet site and watch for them to appear… silently… in the night. Remember, they can't steal your heart unless you invite them in first. It's the rules. Check them out here!

Now for the girls, You never go wrong with everyones' favorite model blonde, BARBIE. And of course for younger ones I have to go with Fisher-Prices new Follow Me Thomas! Thomas celebrates his 65th birthday this year! For little train enthusiasts (who don't understand that trains aren't for eating) comes this toddler-friendly train. Point the light from the lantern and Fisher-Price's Follow Me Thomas will chase it --Utilizing infrared technology, the Thomas engine reacts to the light of the lantern and follows along for endless fun. For extra play, boys can press one of three large buttons on the side of the lantern to activate pre-programmed moves including zigzags, figure eights and circles.

So all in all these are what I would pick as best of teh best from Toy Fair 2010, some new faces and veterans on the list. I so cannot wait for all the amazing new toys to hit the market!

The great debate makeup or no makeup?

Ladies, do you often hear guys say to you that they prefer a girl who doesn’t wear makeup or keep it to a minimal? I hear that all the dang time. Yes, I also heard the horror stories about waking up next to someone who looks nothing like the night before but saying so just proves how superficial you guys can be. If you freak out or feel disgusted by a woman’s natural state after you so-called fell for her when she had her makeup on, then you obviously only cared about her appearance. Truth is Men often contradict themselves because we all know that it’s the chick who’s got her face on that runs the show. They claim they want a natural chick and yet they holla at the one who wears shit loads of makeup. Damn right guys, you know that’s true!

Makeup does do wonders. It can transform an ugly duckly into a beautiful swan. The reality behind this trend is that women do not intend to mislead anyone by altering or enhancing their image but they do so mainly because society (or men) expects them to look beautiful in order to be accepted and wanted. Look at how the media bashes celebrities over every small an insignificant imperfections on their body.

Makeup helps boost women’s confidence to face the harsh world that often will judge and critique them within a glance. Other than that it is mainly just another accessory aside from shoes, clothes, purses, and blings. Oh and for the record, the cosmetic industry is prominently dominated and run by men. Women just represent it, hehe.

On a personal note…I LOVE LOVE makeup! Makeup is art to me. So I love colors and all that sparkles and glitters. If I can wear them, even better! Ha! I usually keep my face on the low during the days and especially when going to work. You know we all somewhat have a dress code to follow in the office.

Outside of the dungeon, it all depends on my mood and the occasion. If I feel like a diva, I’d go for a bold and edgy look, lol, that means lots of popping colors. You’ll only see me pull that look when I want to get artsy and photogenic. If I feel cute, I’d wear something fresh, simple, yet sassy…probably play with some subtle colors. If I feel lazy, I’ll settle for a moisturizer and lip balm and just call it a day.

The bottom line is makeup is used for several reasons: (1) to cover up flaws, (2) diffuse imperfections, (3) enhance features, or (4) create a piece of art. There will be times you can play it up and other times you should play it down. Regardless of how nice or ridiculous someone may look with/or without makeup, all that should really matter is how it makes them feel. If it works in your favor, by all means, go for it. Seriously, people should mind their own faces .
